Meeting 1: BIM Goals and Use Identification Meeting

The first task in the BIM Execution Planning Procedure is to identify the BIM goals on the project along with the appropriate BIM uses based on the project and team characteristics. Figure 1 contains the list of potential BIM uses identified by phase of a building’s development developed through interviews with industry experts. The meeting is expected to last 3-4 hours and the participants would be the BIM Coordinator of the project along with a representative from the owner, the architect and the contractor.

The agenda of the meeting will include:
  1. Introductions for Project Participants and Project Goals
  2. Identification of the Goals for Implementing BIM (use the BIM Goals and Uses Worksheet to guide discussion)
  3. Identification of BIM uses (use the BIM Goal and Use Selection Worksheet to guide discussion)
  4. Developing a plan for future meetings
    • Discuss potential for remote collaboration if needed
    • Exchange of contact information of the key participants

Prior to Meeting 2, the planning team members should develop Project Process Maps for the identified BIM Uses in Meeting 1 (BIM Process Map Templates can be used as a starting point). Depending on the number of project process maps to be created, the difference between the two meetings is expected to be approximately 2 weeks. During this time the team should also identify the information exchange requirements as appropriate for further review during the Process Planning meeting.
